8pm Matt Boden Trio (TAS) Hobartian pianist Matt Boden returns to Jazzgroove for another riotous evening’s jazzing with his brand new trio, featuring Leigh Barker (Melbourne) and Lionel Boccara (Paris). This show will be part of an eastern seaboard tour of Australia, capitalising on the fact that Boccara will be fresh off the back of a tour of Japan with renowned jazz pianist Yutaka Shiina. The three of them will be playing Boden’s originals, and rummaging around in the canon for fresh meat. Matt Boden - Piano, Leigh Barker - Double Bass, (VIC), Lionel Boccara - Drums (FRANCE)
9.30pm Jonathan Zwartz Trio Ben Hauptmann, Jonathan Zwartz and Hamish Stuart formed a trio in early 2014 called ‘Jants Stengalen’. Playing mostly original music (all three are composers), this group manages to traverse some diverse stylistic terrain, with references to Bill Frisell, John Scofield and New Orleans music.
