Event Details

A prize-winning ensemble, comprised of Melbourne-based musicians - Antony Field (ex Saffire), Ben Dix, Jeremy Tottenham, and Peter Karutz. Formed in 2005 by graduates of the Victorian College of the Arts, the quartet won first prize in the VCA Athenaeum Chamber Music Competition and played to sell out audiences in tours of regional Victoria and NSW.

The program will feature new arrangements of works by J.S. Bach, Nigel Westlake and Piazzolla as well as original music by Francis Kleynjans and Robert Davidson, who described the quartet's recording of his Coonowrin as 'one of the best recordings of any of my pieces'.

It has since performed at the Darwin International Guitar Festival and major concert venues. In 2008 the quartet won the 'Cone of Silence' award for most popular act in Melbourne's Quiet Music Festival.
In line with its founding philosophy of enhancing the guitar's stature by expanding its ensemble repertoire, the quartet's critically acclaimed debut album, Four Elements, features arrangements by group members of works by Pizazzolla and Bill Whelan's Riverdance. Currently recording its second CD, the quartet will tour Europe in 2010.

Featured non-Australian music: Bach, Piazzolla, Kleynjans
