Event Details
This very special concert event brings together eight leading figures of the Melbourne contemporary jazz scene and acclaimed New York-based pianist/composer Barney McAll.
Marking the 30th Anniversary of the Melbourne Jazz Co-Op’s first concert (Browne-Costello-Grabowsky Trio and Odwala at RMIT Glasshouse Theatre on January 30, 1983). The two surviving members of that dual-ARIA winning ensemble, pianist/composer Paul Grabowsky, and drummer/composer/poet Allan Browne (Bell Australian Jazz Award Hall of Fame) will join with bassist Frank DiSario to perform originals, highlighted by Grabowsky’s composition dedicated to their late bassist Gary Costello.
The Browne-Murphy-Keller Trio again features Allan Browne, with two of the many outstanding female instrumentalists on the Melbourne scene: triple ARIA winning pianist/composer Andrea Keller, and bassist/composer Tamara Murphy. They will play works from their album Carried by The Sun (JazzHead), as well as new compositions.
This concert has also provided the opportunity for National Jazz Award winner Julien Wilson (sax) to premiere a trio collaboration with pianist Barney McAll (with whom he recorded in New York) and Sydney bassist Jonathan Zwartz.
