Event Details
Praised for performances of the ‘highest calibre’ (The Age), Callum G’Froerer is a boundary-breaking trumpet virtuoso and composer. G’Froerer’s speciality is the mercurial double-bell trumpet. The second bell allows for enchanting mixtures of timbres and is a gift to artists with a flair for experimental techniques. This instrument is the centrepiece of Callum’s wild solo works and collaborations with leading composers.
Three striking, theatrical and exploratory works fuse the trumpet with electronics, creating an immersive and cutting-edge performance. Contemporary Irish composer Ann Cleare’s dramatic 'the re-lighting of the sun' sees G’Froerer as the protagonist working against all odds to reverse the damaged phenomena of a burnt-out sun. The world premiere of Anthony Pateras's Palimpsest Geometry places G'Froerer in the middle of a pulsating and colourful environment, while his own work charcoal vi situates the audience inside the tubes of the trumpet, with microscopic sounds dancing gracefully and bewilderingly across the room. Video projections by acclaimed artist Sabina Maselli makes this concert an unforgettable audiovisual experience.
