A REVEALING MUSICAL REFLECTION ON HOW AUSTRALIA RESPONDED TO ITS FIRST FEMALE PRIME MINISTER
After Julia is a piercing reflection on how our country responded to its first female Prime Minister, as told through seven new works by seven female composers.
Commissioned by Decibel, world leaders in the integration of acoustic instruments and electronics, After Julia will offer diverse approaches to contemporary composition, as well as various reflections on the ways that Gillard’s leadership exposed an inherent gender inequality in the Australian parliament and across the country.
Featuring everything from the operatic delivery of parliamentary speeches to a piece conducted by a goldfish, After Julia is a new music event concerned not so much with politics, but with the cultural recognition of women in leadership.
After Julia is presented by Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council, Metro Arts and Decibel New Music.
