Schubert’s sublime String Quintet in C, Op.163 is a chamber music masterpiece.
It is not only considered to be Schubert’s best chamber work but one of the best chamber works period. Composed during the final weeks of Schubert’s life, it explores a range of colours, emotions, and melodies and will take you on a moving journey.
Sculthorpe’s String Quartet No.12 (From Ubirr) is a deeply evocative work that reflects the sounds of nature and the earth, in particular Ubirr, a series of rocky outcrops located in Kakadu National Park.
Aside from composing, Madeleine Dring was also talented and versatile in the areas of music performance, art, and theatre. In her captivating Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano, you can hear the influence of French composer Francis Poulenc.
Featured non-Australian music: Madeleine Dring, Schubert
