Simon Barker: Intangible Asset No 82
When talented and innovative Australian drummer Simon Barker hears a rare recording of Korean shaman Kim Seok-Chul – a grand master in his seventies playing with immense energy and complex technique, he knows immediately he must find and learn from the enigmatic shaman officially recognized as South Korea’s 82nd Intangible Asset.
Denley/Majkowski Duo
With a career spanning over three decades, Jim Denley is renowned for spontaneity, site-specific work and collaboration as instrumentalist, improviser and composer. He was recently awarded a Fellowship by the Australia Council for 2006 + 07 and is currently working towards a paradigm shift in the notion and perception of the saxophone.
Mike Majkowski has developed a personal approach to the double bass over the last few years, currently exploring how the use of refined extended techniques establishes the sound and style of the work; how these technical possibilities create dialogues between each other, and within one another.
