Presented by the Paragon Project - a monthly performance forum of music, improvisation, poetry, spoken word and sound art in Katoomba’s original art-deco café.

James Heighway has been working in the field of improvisation and noise for many years and has currently returned back to the roots of electronics playing his mixing desk (called the fusion moth, a vintage analogue mixing desk converted to a synth), creating everything from drone to extreme noise. James has been involved in many now now festivals  and is a founding member of sun of the seventh sister, xwave and the spiders.

Tim Cunningham is a guitarist, improviser and composer from the Blue Mountains whose current work draws on the use of harmonics and microtones He has studied at the Canberra School Of Music and is currently a member of the Splinter Orchestra.

Jo Truman, our Wentworth Falls local has been improvising for many years, mostly using piano and voice. She specialises in extended vocal techniques and explores vocal micro tonality. She also composes and has a passion for radio phonics, and has had commissions from ABC and WDR3, Cologne. Jo has performed widely within Australia and internationally and has recently been in Mona Foma Festival in Hobart.

WeiZen Ho initiated, curated and facilitated “Sound Bites” in July 2012 with continual support from members from the local Blue Mountains community. This event creates a continual dialogue with practitioners who reside in the BM and Sydney, as well as sound/text artists across Australia and traveling international musicians and poets. It has a focus on improvisation practice as well as extended use of objects and instruments. WeiZen has just returned from a performance tour across Java with Arts Island Festival in July and will be returning to South East Asia again in August to deepen her sound and choreographic research on the Hungry Ghost Festival at a Penang arts residency in West Malaysia.

Performers: James Heighway: electronic drones & noise, Tim Cunningham: harmonics & microtones, Jo Truman/WeiZen duo: voice/piano/objects
