Legends, magic and an arpeggio of harpists. Join us for the last word in luscious Romanticism.
With the World Harp Congress in town, we couldn't resist the chance to put the instrument of angels in the spotlight. Acclaimed Israeli harpist Sivan Magen will play music by Rodrigo. And because one harp concerto simply isn't enough, SSO principal Louise Johnson will be the soloist in Legends of the Old Castle.
From Orpheus of ancient Greece to the troubadours and the Celtic bards, the harp has been spinning tales for centuries. And for the concert highlight, Simone Young is treating us to a rare performance of The Mermaid. Hear Hans Christian Andersen's tragic fairytale brought alive with rich orchestral colours and impassioned harmonies. Zemlinsky's atmospheric music is like a soundtrack without a film - it ripples, it soars, and it will sweep you away.
Featured non-Australian music: Liszt, Rodrigo, Zemlinsky
