Event Details

A program of works for up to five kotos, led by Australia’s foremost koto virtuoso, Satsuki Odamura. The koto is an ancient Japanese stringed instrument with a huge dynamic and tonal range. It is long, at just under 2 meters, made from wood of the Paulownia tree and has 13 strings strung over 13 moveable bridges. The koto is a traditional Japanese instrument, featuring in the eleventh century Tales of Genji as the instrument accompanying courtly love. It has also been revived in the Meiji period to accompany western music. The program will include works by Tadao Sawai, Hikaru Sawai and Mark Isaacs.
