Event Details

The Artemis Orchestra was founded with the hope of promoting women in jazz as musicians, soloists and composers. Less than a quarter of all professional jazz musicians world wide are female and this is something which we hope will change for the better in future. The goal is that having an ensemble like this, which is predominately female, will inspire young women in Perth to also consider taking on a career in jazz. For this performance, we will play the music of female Australian composers, such as Shannon Barnett, Kristin Berardi, Eliza Davis, Louise Denson, Sandy Evans, Gemma Farrell, Sally Greenaway, Alice Humphries, Ellen Kirkwood, Alana Macpherson, Kate Pass, Venessa Perica and Candice Susnjar.

The band for this performance will be:

MD: Gemma Farrell
Vox: Lucy Iffla and Laura Igglesden
Saxes: Erin Royer, Holly Forster, Claire Keet, Thea Woodward, Jemima Mills
Trombones: Alex Parkinson, Holli Hatherly, Katie Hodson, Ewan Potter
Trumpets: Charlie Teakle, Jess Fiocco, Chris Zappa, Julia Wallace
Rhythm Section: Candice Susnjar, Kirsten Symczycz, Gwyneth Gardiner, Julius J. Rogers, Imogen Thomson
