Event Details
This concert brings together three quite distinct Australian voices of improvising piano in solo sets. Pianist/composer Tony Gould is the elder statesman of Melbourne contemporary jazz piano, and mentored most of Melbourne’s jazz pianists through his role at the VCA.
Described by the ABC's Jim McLeod as 'one of the most interesting improvisers in Australia', pianist/composer Colin Hopkins recorded his debut solo album, Kyaya Sun, in Germany in 1993.
Mart Saarelaht is an autodidact who has gained a deep and profound understanding of jazz pianist/composers such as Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nicholls, Bud Powell, Geri Allen and John Taylor, while producing distinctive originals.
