‘Complex and adventurous.’ The Australian

About the artists

Give it up for three of Australia’s most celebrated jazz artists – pianists Tony Gould AM and Paul Grabowsky AO, and saxophonist Robert Burke. With their phenomenal combined history of performing, recording and composing music, it’s no understatement to say that these pioneering artists have rewritten the book on what it means to be a jazz musician in Australia.

About the concert

Pianists Paul Grabowsky, Tony Gould and saxophonist Robert Burke deliver a master class in improvisation. The trio’s compositions draw on an impressive number of influences, ranging from classical to jazz, folk and the American Songbook. Their music showcases a 21st-century sensibility, based on the artists’ rich explorations of jazz across their careers. The acclaimed artists each belong to a rare breed of performers, which brings a magical quality to hearing them perform as a unit. Astoundingly, sometimes the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts, even when the individuals have the artistic pedigree of these three.
