The time we are living it’s a difficult time for everybody, but artists and musicians have to face an unprecedent forced stand-by caused by the lock down of the COVID-19.

Cadenza Music Management strongly believes it’s time to move and to sort out some significative project to give to the musician worldwide in the classical field a chance to show their skills and to make some useful step for their carriers.

Thanks to our worldwide network we succeeded in gathering some prestigious classical musicians, representative of some outstanding concert institutions, who are glad to collaborate with us and participate in the Jury of this First Cadenza Online Music Contest.

Cadenza © Music Management, announces first edition of the first Cadenza© online music contest, the online music competition for XXI Century musicians.

The competition is open to instrumentalists, singers and ensembles of any nationality. The competition will be held in two phases, eliminatory and final.

Both phases will be held online and will consist in the examination of the CV and of videos of a performance of the candidate.

The aim of the competition is to offer real career opportunities to the finalists, that's why the members of the jury are well known musicians from the major music institutions in the world.

The examination of the videos will take place from the opening of the contest until August the 10th 2020. The results of the eliminatory phase will be given within one week then the chosen competitors will have to send the new videos.

The results of the final phase will be given within August the 20th 2020.

REGULATIONS:

1. STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION:

The competition is structured in two main phases, ELIMINATORY phase and FINAL phase;

1.1 The ELIMINATORY phase starts on May the 12th 2020 and ends on August the 10th 2020 and consists on the examination of videos and CVs;

1.2 The FINAL will take place from August the 10th until August the 20th 2020 and consists on the examination of videos;

2. CATEGORIES:

The competition is organized in four categories: singers, instrumentalists, ensembles and senior.

2.1 SINGERS:

2.1.1 the category is open to singers of any voice register;
2.1.2 female singers: born after January the 1st 1985;
2.1.3 male singers: born after January the 1st 1980;

2.2 INSTRUMENTALISTS:

2.2.1 the category is open to any acoustic instrument, with or without accompaniment;
2.2.2 the instrumentalists must be born after January the 1st 1980;

2.3 ENSEMBLES:

2.3.1 the category is open to any ensemble from duet to nonet, with any combination of instruments;
2.3.2 all the members of the ensemble must be born after January the 1st 1980;

2.4 SENIOR:

2.4.1 the special category "senior" is open to any individual born before January the 1st 1980 or any ensemble composed by members all of them born before January the 1st 1980;
2.4.2 the participants in the special category "senior" will be judged according to the quality of their performance regardless of the instrument/voice type;

3. REPERTOIRE:

3.1 there is no limit in the choice of the repertoire except that the pieces performed must be originally intended to be performed without the use of amplification or the accompaniment of electronic devices and/or instruments;

3.2 the music must be written, improvisation (except for cadenzas, embellishments and basso continuo) is not allowed;

4. JURY:

4.1 the jury will be composed by the following members:

Tamás Bátor (Hungary) - Director of Coproduction of Palace of Arts “MÜPA” Budapest; Artistic Consultant of Hungarian State Opera.

Benjamin Levy (France) - Music Director of Orchestre de Cannes.

Robert Franz (the United States of America) - Music Director of Windsor Symphony Orchestra; Associate Conductor of Houston Symphony.

Yuri Medianik (Russia) - Principal Conductor of Moscow Theatre Novaya Opera; Principal Conductor, VGTRK Russian Broadcasting Television State Company.

Massimo Polidori (Italy) - First Cello of Teatro alla Scala di Milano/Filarmonica della Scala.

Yury Revich (Austria) - Concert violinist – ECHO Klassik winner; International Classical Music Awards winner; President of the Beethoven Society for music and research; UNICEF Partner.

5. PRIZES:

GRAND PRIZE:

The Grand Prize consists in a money prize of EUR 2,500 and it can be assigned to a musician (instrumentalist, singer or ensemble) independently to the category of application.

FIRST PRIZE:

Instrumentalists: money prize of EUR 500;
Singers: money prize of EUR 500;
Ensembles: money prize of EUR 1,000;
Senior: gold medal "Cadenza Contest" in pure gold.

SPECIAL PRIZES:

The organizing management will choose and invite one or more musicians (instrumentalist or singer or ensemble) chosen independently from the category of application, to take part to a concert organized during the season 2021-2022 of a prestigious European concert institution.

6. APPLICATION:

6.1 to get registered the contestants must send the following documents exclusively by email:

– filled in and signed application form;
– curriculum Vitae;
– link to the videos;
– 1 candidate’s choice picture;
– payment receipt of the application fee.

6.2 the documents must be sent by 12:00 pm GMT July the 31st 2020 to cadenzacontest@gmail.com .

7. APPLICATION FEES:

7.1 singers and instrumentalists: EUR 25;
7.2 ensembles: EUR 15 for each member of the ensemble;
7.3 senior: EUR 25;

8. PAYMENT:

8.1 the payment can be done through bank transfer, Paypal or credit card (through Paypal);
8.2 payment options can be found on the competition website.

8. COPYRIGHT AND FINAL PROVISIONS:

8.1 the competition is a media event that will be recorded and broadcasted on the web and other media, submitting their application the competitors authorize the direction of the competition to the use of their image either through photographs and audio / video that can be broadcasted via radio, television and other media (internet, etc.);

8.2 submitting their application the candidates also authorize the organization to use their name and image in printed publications related to the competition;

8.3 the organization expects that candidates are available for interviews, photo shoots, and any other activity designed to make the competition interesting for the media;

8.4 the application and participation fee will not be refunded for any reason, except the except for the cancellation of the competition; for any legal dispute the competent forum is Genoa’s.

APPENDIX A: VIDEO DETAILS:

A.1 the videos aim is to illustrate to the jury the candidate’s skills and technique and will be analyzed together with the CV’s in order to have the most accurate opinion on candidate’s abilities;

A.2 for the eliminatory phase the candidates have attach links to two videos of a performance of two contrasting character pieces (for example one Allegro and one Adagio or a Romance and a Cabaletta) from any historical period;

A.3 two contrasting movements of the same piece are allowed; in case of a scene of opera the contrasting sections in the scene can be considered as different pieces;

A.4 For the Final phase the selected candidates have to send another two videos, different form the ones sent before, of two contrasting pieces;

Videos must have the following features:

A.5 each video has to be from 2 to 15 minutes;

A.6 videos must be played in streaming mode (videos don’t have to be downloaded);

A.7 videos can be private or public as long as they can be seen by the entire jury without any restrictions;

A.8 the candidates must send one link for each video;

A.9 no specific streaming platform is required, any of the most common are permitted (for example Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Youku etc.) however the video should be played by an ordinary computer running a Windows or a Mac system.
