Product details
A bird sang in the jaws of night, is an intimate little song for soprano or mezzo soprano and piano. It is a setting of fragments of letters sent to me by my then girlfriend and soon to be wife Catherine Riley while she was in London taking singing lessons from Emma Kirkby. I jumbled together phrases and later individual words to create a little musical portrait of that time in our lives. A piano version of it was played at our wedding by our good friend Greg Dixon. The title is a line from one of my favorurite poems by Kenneth Slessor, entitled 'The Old Play'.
