Product details
Informed by coastal hikes in regional Victoria, this work draws on the perceptual and behavioural qualities of natural environments. It explores the gradient of sound experienced by an observer moving through a landscape, the shifting balance of sounds between day and night, and the influence of weather on the distribution and intensity of sounds within a space. I also seek to emulate the ways individual entities within these environments contribute to the whole to construct a holistic soundworld shaped by local interaction rather than design. I also attempt to reflect how neighbouring environments share and transform their sonic traits at their borders, producing emergent soundworlds that mirror ecological interdependence. Beyond sound, I also took a lot of influence from other sensory aspects of these environments-colour, aroma, shape, biodiversity, tactility, humidity, lighting, and density-considering how these factors contribute to the experience of place.
