Sheet Music: ScoreAugmentation canon : for five pianos / Justin McKay.by Justin McKay (2015)
|
Product details
Written for a piano class with participants of widely differing levels of experience. There are five written parts (some of which double each other). The premiere performance was given by three pianists on two pianos.
Pianos 1 and 2 are playing the augmentation canon, piano 2 follows and plays piano 1's theme with note values doubled (half the speed). Piano 3 plays a separate augmentation canon between the two hands: everything played in the right hand is played twice as slow in the left hand, with the modification that the notes in each measure are played twice in the right hand, but once in the left hand (Because of this, each measure begins a new canon for piano 3). Pianos 4 and 5 are the least difficult and follow the left hand of piano 3.
The canon between pianos 1 and 2 is based on two (and four) beat groupings. The piano 3 canon sounds as 6/8 in the right hand and 3/4 in the left hand, and thus gives the greater rhythmic challenge of all 5 parts.
