Words from 'Crustacean rejoinder' by Kenneth Slessor, and 'Litany against everything' by Steve Wood.
Crustacean Rejoinder is an instrumental piece which was later adapted for chamber ensemble and choir. It is based on a poem by Kenneth Slessor which is in this version interpreted without words or voices. The poem tells of how in the modern busy world people often build a hard 'shell' around themselves for protection, isolating them in the process. It is set in a series of abstracted 'blues' verses of varying lengths - not just 12 bar groupings. It's complex, busy intensity eventually gives way to a somewhat stately conclusion before returning to the initial 'rat race' tempo.
This is a handwritten edition — it is not typeset.
