Product details
Digressioni modali or Modal Digressions explores the modal characteristics of the seven modes generated by the major scale within a modal harmonic structure essentially founded on a D pedal note. Each mode with its particular set of altered degrees and intervallic relationships displays an individual characteristic colour - the flattened 7th degree in the Mixolydian mode, the further additions of the flattened 3rd in the Dorian mode, flattened 6th in the Aeolian mode, flattened 2nd in the Phrygian mode, and the flattened 5th in the Locrian mode, as well as the singular sharpened 4th in the Lydian mode. The Ionian and Lydian modes are harmonically associated with the major 7th chord, the Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolian modes with the minor 7th, Mixolydian with the dominant 7th and the Locrian with the half diminished (minor 7th/b5) chord.
