Product details

Dreams in Shadow was composed for the saxophonist Phil Pierick for a performance at the Miró Mallorca Fundació in Spain. Much as an artist may study a subject before commencing work on a canvass, this short solo work acts as a study of the saxophone and its contrasting musical personalities. The core material, a plaintive and ornamented melodic line is examined, picked apart, and eventually transformed throughout the piece. Its melancholic cry dissolves into silence, only to be replaced by a comical interlude and a demonic dance. There is no logic, much like the logic of the subconscious - the familiar resurfaces in warped forms, daring the dreamer to awake.
