Product details

This is an album of charming art songs from Australian composer, Horace Keats (1895-1945). He has become known as "A Poet's Composer" because of his penchant for setting poetry. Many of the poets were Australian, like Christopher Brennan and Hugh McCrae, and some were well-known international poets eg. William Blake.

Involved in the formation of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), and well-regarded as a composer in his day, Keats is, sadly, little known today. His attention to detail and ability to paint the picture of the poem he was setting is extraordinary. Sung in the style of the era by Wendy Dixon and John Pringle, the music is atmospheric, emotive and almost Debussy-like at times. Keats truly deserves the attention that he is finally receiving.
