Product details

Essay no.1 for Orchestra: Hommage a Leo Janáek is a work in a single movement of approximately 12 to 13 minutes duration.

It takes its inspiration, not from any desire to parody Janáek's music or style, but from the opening figure of the Concertino JW VII/11.

From this figure, particularly the first six notes, comes the motivic material from which nearly all of the subsequent themes and ideas are derived. While it never appears in its unadulterated form, its characteristic intervallic shape is present throughout with the unusual cadential close reserved for the very end of the work.
