Product details

The title of this piece essentially sums up its inspiration and conception. To me, a fanfare signifies a musical work that is big, brash, celebratory and exuberant; and obviously features brass and percussion. The 'emergent' suffix alludes to the way the fully-fledged fanfare theme only gradually comes into focus. It is revealed in fragments, quite tentatively at first, and often has to compete with rude interruptions. But it remains omnipresent, and through this persistence gains an irrepressible momentum that culminates in a climactic orchestral blaze - the fanfare proper. Rather than starting with a theme and developing it further, I have reversed this traditional compositional order, allowing the theme to 'emerge' through progressive hints at its constituent motifs. So this work was composed from the inside out, so to speak.
