Product details
A solitary viola melody begins; as it unfolds, a tapestry of seventeen interwoven voices gradually join in, before the music ultimately returns to solitude. Inspired by a poignant moment in the Rapunzel's Sister trilogy, Gone is scored for flute and viola.
Regarding instrumentation and performance requirements, an explanatory note:
The recording of this work was created through studio overdubbing. For reference, the music video of this recording is available on this page and on YouTube, and the audio recording is available on streaming platforms (released August 2025).
With this in mind, the work may be performed using a range of instrumentation options, outlined below. In summary:
• Option 1: Flute, viola, and two loop pedals
• Option 2: Eight flutes and nine violas
• Option 3: Seventeen instruments
Option 1: Flute, viola, and two loop pedals
The piece was originally conceived for flute and viola, with each performer using a loop pedal. Once a theme is introduced, it loops for the duration of the piece, with the exception of the final section, which returns to solo viola. All sections are identical in length, and with each successive loop, new thematic material enters (indicated at each rehearsal letter).
Option 2: Eight flutes and nine violas
This unconventional instrumentation recreates the layered texture of the studio recording.
Option 3: Seventeen instruments
Any combination of seventeen instruments may be used, selected for their range and ability to execute the notated articulations
