Product details
This piece was written in 1994, and explores the rhythmic relationship between two rhythm sections (piano and drums 1, and bass and drums 2) playing different time signatures at different tempos simultaneously. The trumpet part weaves its way between the two tempos, and incorporates elements of each rhythm section. The rhythmic relationship is strictly notated, and the piece also employs some improvisation within each section.
Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score (18p. -- A4 (portrait))
Difficulty: Advanced — The piece has two tempos and time signatures running simultaneously throughout.
Duration: 5 min.
First performance by Stephen Hall, Andrew Harrison, Ben Harmsen, Barnaby Gold, Chris Lewis — 10 May 94. La Trobe University Studios, Melbourne
Due to its rhythmic complexity, the piece was conceived of as a 'studio composition'. It was recorded in 1994 at La Trobe University Music Studios in Melbourne, Australia.
The ensemble divides into two groups, Drums I and bass, and Drums II and piano. Both groups play in their own time and meter, and the trumpet part is superimposed over these.
This is a handwritten edition — it is not typeset.
