The collection was inspired by the Italian meanings of the word 'tempo'. For musicians, the word 'tempo' embraces the finer details of pace, metronome markings, and musical mood or character. In Italian, depending on the context, 'tempo' also means 'weather'. The notion that, in Italian, musical tempo and weather are so closely related gave rise to these musical explorations. These compositions can be thought of as miniature tone poems for piano - each piece is a musical illustration, capturing the essence of familiar weather experiences. The intention is that these evocative works will strike a chord with student pianists everywhere, offering 'favourable conditions' for enjoyment at the piano!
