Product details
Mugungwha Train was commissioned by Samuel Wright as a wind band work for the APAC Band Festival in South Korea 2017. The brief was that the new work should reflect aspects of Korean society, culture, music etc. so after much deliberation I decided to give the work a modern setting and base it on the Mugungwha Train. This particular train travels through many regions of the country and it gave me great scope to present the varying landscapes while always having the constant rumble of the train journey. As it turned out, my wife Philippa Collins, a fine violinist in her own right, on hearing the piece said 'that would make a great violin quartet'. The rest is history!!

The composer notes:
Mugungwha Train is a modern contemporary classical work that contains some elements of Korean music. This violin quartet is an uptempo rhythmic piece that has immediate audience appeal. Mugungwha Train would make an excellent addition to any recital program and works particularly well as an opening or closing (encore) work.
