Sheet Music: ScoreNight song : for oboe and piano / Tim Dargaville.by Tim Dargaville (1997)
|
Product details
The piano part to Night Song was originally created for the 1997 Kickhouse Theatre production of the radio play Ned Kelly by Douglas Stewart. The music was originally intended to accompany a depiction of Ned's last night in the Old Melbourne Gaol, where according to reports he was calm and at peace with himself and whistled folk songs such as The Wild Colonial Boy - a fragment of which is buried in the luminous piano part.
Over the years, Night Song has been performed, recorded and
broadcast as a piano solo.
In 2020 a series of new versions, or recompositions, of this
music have been created for piano and combinations of other
instruments. In each version, the piano part remains the same - a
familiar presence. The new instrument provides a more recent
perspective around what was previously existing. I think of these
new versions as 'memory' pieces - exploring the contemplation of
something treasured and familiar from different vantage points at
a distance of over 2 decades in time.
