Sheet Music: ScoreRiff madness III : for two toy grand pianos / Michael Hannan.by Michael Hannan (2016)

Product details
Riff Madness III is a further exploration of the notion
of the riff following on from my earlier Riff Madness
for jazz pianist (1981) and Riff Madness II for two
keyboard synthesisers (1988). A riff is a distinctive short
melodic/rhythmic pattern that is repeated to create the
foundation for a groove in African-American styles of music such
as blues and funk.
Riff Madness III is written for two three-octave (37
keys) toy pianos.
The work is in three short movements. The first uses a four-bar
blues-rock riff in one part as the basis of a set of riff-like
melodic variations in the second part. The movement is centred on
F but also employs the riff transposed to A flat and B flat.
The second movement explores riff and ostinato constructions that
vacillate between using the whole-tone scale, the chromatic scale
and the diminished scale.
The last movement takes the notion of a riff texture into a
pentatonic world, using the Asian-sounding scale (D, E, F, A, B
flat) exclusively throughout.
