Sheet Music: ScoreRituals in transfigured time / John Peterson.by John Peterson (1997)
|
Product details
Rituals in Transfigured Time is an abstract work for
large orchestra: there is no narrative to influence the overall
structure of the work, but the exploration of melody, harmony,
instrumental timbre, and rhythm, drives the music forward through
its vigorous and energetic outer sections. The slower central
section is the emotional heart of the work, providing a moment
for contemplation and meditation on lyrical themes. The work, in
general, is meant as a showcase for the powerful and richly
evocative sound of a large orchestra.
Rituals in Transfigured Time was a semifinalist entry in
Masterprize (1997), an international competition seeking new
works for orchestra, which was administered jointly by the London
Symphony Orchestra and BBC Music Magazine. Rituals in
Transfigured Time was recorded for world-wide radio broadcasts by
the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Lionel Friend,
in 1997.
