Silver Whirlwinds is the first movement in the three-movement 'Silver Winds Suite'.
The duration is approximately 4 minutes. The work is based on the tonal centre of D. The piano begins this movement with an arpeggiated D minor 9th chord, followed by a Latin- inspired syncopated lilting accompaniment figure. The work is peppered with modal and jazz harmonies and syncopated melodic figures, while the whirling sextuplet figures and dramatic rising trills played by the flute are the inspiration for the title of the work is the first movement in the three-movement 'Silver Winds Suite'.
