This solo violin sonata quasi una fantasia explores some of the many colours and moods the violin is capable of, hence the work's subtitle, 'Temperamental'. The work begins with a slow, flowing first theme, before suddenly shifting into a hyperactive and rhythmic second theme. The improvisatory and virtuosic development and clashing of these themes continues to wander through the many emotional landscapes the violin is capable of. The work concludes with a series of grand flourishes.
