Southern Cantata is a four movement work commissioned by St John's Southbank, Melbourne to a new text by Katherine Firth. The work is scored for choir, soloists and early music orchestra although it may also be performed on modern instruments. The work was commissioned to celebrate St John's period performances of the cantatas of J S Bach.
