|
Product details
The work is made up of three contrasting movements. Movement one begins at a slow tempo and features harmonies and melodies that move in and out of various key centres. It draws on harmonic language influenced by both jazz and impressionist composers Ravel and Debussy. Movement two is based on an ostinato that is passed between cello and viola and developed as it progresses. The harmonic language and rhythmic phrasing has been influenced by the jazz idiom. Movement three is at a moderately fast tempo and has a highly rhythmic focus. It is built on shifting syncopated patterns based on quaver groupings. Rhythmic patterns are developed over changing time signatures.
