Product details
Each of the four movements of this work looks back on different aspects of human life and experience. The first movement is a reflection on breach of trust, and the deep sorrow this can bring. The second movement is in rondo form. The varied repetitions of the main theme are interspersed with two dance-like tunes, written by the composer's younger daughter when she was in her early teens. The third movement describes two loving parents trying to get their small daughter to sleep; but she is being wilful, and will not settle. After some flurries of temperament, the child wearies, and sleep ensues. The fourth movement follows the journey of a lively and capable person into the gentle dislocation of extreme old age. While there is a story behind each movement, every listener responds to music in a unique and individual way. Images other than those described may come to mind, or the listener may simply hear pure music, with no images attached. Whatever the case, the music is there for enjoyment, and no prescribed program should interfere with that.
