Product details

The title is the original word for Tamborine Mountain, Qld, in the Yugumbah language, which has obviously been subsequently anglicised. One of my compositional foci is in the use of genre and style to compose - the drawing of musical elements, ideas, and attitudes from often disparate musics and combining such to discover new sonorities and musical strategies. I wrote the music for the piece initially using the mixolydian (Khamaj) mode in the style of some Indian Raga music which I have used in solo pieces for the guitar. The piece uses this stylistic treatment as a unifying, referential element in various sections, but the music unfolds through diverse soundscapes, sections that I refer to as musical worldlets. These include other stylistic inclusions such as a mournful lyricism, expansive chordal textures, and imitative polyphony over static harmonic surfaces, all leading to a reintroduction of the Raga-like melody that precedes the finale ending the work. The piece has a variety of symphonic textures, some lush, others dramatic or lyrical.
