This resource is to assist educators in accessing, understanding and teaching Australian music to students in the classroom environment. The resource is for primarily secondary school students and can be incorporated in classroom programs at the senior level, Years 7-12. The content of this resource includes an introduction to the music of John Carmichael, his biography and the significant influences on his compositional approach. This is followed by the analysis of three works by the composer which includes background, musical ingredients and detailed listening guides. Towards the end of the kit are teaching prompts/ideas to assist with the presentation and study of these works in the classroom. These prompts or tasks have been divided into Listening/Musicology, Performance and Composition.
