Sheet Music: Score & Part(s)The River : for alto flute and piano / Mark Isaacs.by Mark Isaacs (2013)
|
Product details
The River is one of eighteen pieces in Mark Isaacs's
Children's Songs solo piano cycle which the composer
premiered at the 2012 Adelaide Festival and recorded for CD.
At the end of 2013, Isaacs arranged the piece for alto flute and
piano for a CD recording flautist Melissa Doecke did with the
composer, and it is dedicated to her.
In evoking the water's chaotic flow, The River employs
all kinds of compositional devices, including a sudden move from
F-sharp minor to B-flat minor and a series of asymmetrical,
shifting rhythmic divisions that continually expand and contract
the number of subunits within each beat.
For Mark, the piece evokes "a kind of longing that the mythology
of the river symbolizes."
