As the title suggests, this work is in 3-parts as in a triptych-style 3-panelled painting. For the slow introductory panel the soloist uses a soprano saxophone, for the major, "allegro" middle panel the soloist swaps to alto saxophone. For the 3rd and final adagio section the soloist begins on alto and eventually changes back to soprano. There is no pause between the 3 sections or "panels".
Instrumentation: Solo saxophone (alto/soprano), piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinets, bass clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba, harp, celesta, timpani, multiple percussion instruments.
Duration: 13 min.
Commission note: Composed at the request of Sydney saxophonist Christina Leonard
