Work Overview

A Country Meadow was commissioned for the 2003 New Zealand National Band Championships as the 'Open Cornet Test Piece'. It is a reasonably demanding piece and can be played using the full range of the cornet, trumpet, baritone or euphonium. The piano accompaniment is also written in a fairly standard style, with a 7/8 middle section added for variety.
It was composed in 2002 while living at 'Mumble Cottage', a cosy little European-styled farm house situated in the small country town of Burrawang NSW Australia, in the Southern Highlands south of Sydney.
