If not in this world takes its inspiration from a letter to my great-great grandmother, Emma Robins, by my great-great uncle, Leslie Robins. He wrote it whilst recuperating from gun-shot wounds sustained at the Battle of Pozieres in August, 1916. It was to be his final letter home; he was killed in February 1917. The piece also features correspondence between Emma and the Australian War Office, as she vainly tries to find a special keep-sake she gave her son before he left Australia.
Instrumentation: Soprano, tenor, flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, bassoon, horn in F, trumpet in B flat, trombone, tuba, drum kit, percussion (2 players), electric guitar, piano, strings (188.8.131.52.1).
Duration: 22 min.
Dedication note: Dedicated to my wife, Linda Harrison and my father, Barry Harrison
