Two-part sleep / Frock ; Elena-Kats-Chernin
Work Overview
When toying with future modes of expression, Frock commissioned renowned Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin to write for them. An OzCo funded process ensued, where the band received Kats-Chernin's new piece and commenced rehearsing it under the baton of producer Tamil Rogeon (Raah Project, True Live), another first for Frock.
The result is an atmospheric Gallic flavoured piece of new music, featuring the band moving away from their acoustic sound, using the studio as an equal factor in the creation of sound and generator of improvising materials.
With elements of mash-up, dubstep, Dirty Grandpa, French chanson and 70s funk, Two Part Sleep is a new sound for Frock. It is the sound of 5 old friends ageing disgracefully together, while being monitored for obverse deviation by a producer and an external composer.
