Work Overview
This is a short virtuosic chamber work which was to some extent suggested to the composer by reflections on the First Players speech from Shakespeare's Hamlet act 2 scene 2. The music reflects both the violence and the tragedy of bereavement that are portrayed within the speech. Naturally these reflections in the music exist at a notional level and the music in no way parallels or mimics the Shakespearean text.
