Un oiseau chante parce qu'il a une chanson or 'A Bird Sings Because it has a Song' was commissioned by Kimihiro Yasaka (Montreal, Canada) for performance as part of the 'Sanctuaire d'oiseau' project ('Bird's Sanctuary' or 鳥の聖地), and is dedicated to Maya Angelou (1928-2014). With the release of her first autobiography entitled 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' (1969), American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou was "hailed as a new kind of memoirist, one of the first African American women who were able to publicly discuss their personal lives.
