Work Overview

In performance, this composition can be adapted to suite a variety of small jazz ensembles (see instrumentation). The form is a standard AABA however the A sections are 10 bars in length. Soloists have the option of improvising over the form or building their improvisations on an extended A section and cue the bridge when ready to end the solo. The piece was inspired by the playing and writing of trumpeter Mirosalv Bukovsky.

Year: 2021

Instrumentation: Originally composed for: pocket trumpet, alto saxophone, double bass, drums. Can easily be adapted for any two horn combination and the addition of a harmonic instrument.

Duration: 5 min.

Difficulty: Medium — 'Miro' requires the ability to improvise over an open minor vamp and a simple harmonic progression in the bridge.
