Work Overview
Prelude Mesto is a work for solo cello composed for the Danish cellist Johannes Martens in 2001. He gave the first performances in London and Copenhagen in July that year. The work is a short piece with, as the word Mesto in the title implies, a sad and sombre character. Much of the music of the piece derives from the opening phrase of another work from the same period: Winter Ground for solo vibraphone.
