Score
twine wound : for solo piano / Rishin Singh.
Library shelf no. 786.2/SIN 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
twine wound was composed after research into the Mazurka, from its origins as a Mazovian folk dance through its fame as a Romantic piano form to its popularity as folk dances and folk musics throughout the world. The practice of various forms of Mazurka can be traced to as far afield as Belgium, Brazil, Cape Verde, Cuba, Curaçao, Ireland, Italy, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Portugal, and Russia.
Music - like all culture - is transmitted from people to people and community to community, in non-linear fashions, and for the most part disregarding petty notions of Nationalism. It is, however, also deeply entangled with Empire, creating a dialectical tension between which twine wound sits.
