Work Overview

Fables of Love is a song cycle about the pain and suffering that is so often the consequence of various types of love. It does not tell specific stories but sugests situations like the love for a difficult partner, an insatiable love and devotion to God or Nation, the love for a lost loved one and the heart ache in the quest for love itself. The music vascilates between expressions of exhuberant joy and ambiguous melancholy and sorrow. The music is unsettled and unresolved but has some very affirming moments of pure passion.
