Library shelf no. 782.55542/WAL 7 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
A song cycle in 7 movements, Of the Body is a celebration of the human form: each movement focussing on a different part of the anatomy: Hands, Feet, Mouth, Eyes, Blood and Heart. The secular texts are drawn from a variety of sources: an English translation of poems by 17th century Japanese poet Basho; a contemporary poem by a Guatemalan Reproductive Health worker; a text by a leading New York Cardiovascular surgeon. Similarly, this a cappella work also takes on a variety of musical styles, representing a sweeping celebration of both the human voice and physical form that carries it.
