My favourite Australian art song repertoire
Posted by Australian Music Centre on 15 July, 2013
The AMC asked leading practitioners to select their favourite Australian art song repertoire, to provide delegates to the 2013 International Conference of Vocal Teachers (Brisbane 2013) with an introduction to this rich and diverse landscape.
These beautiful, dramatic, challenging songs for soprano, piano and optional oboe offer the performers the rare opportunity to explore a wide range of vocal, instrumental and ensemble colours using texts from the Psalms. The pianist needs to be able to span tenths in the amazingly beautiful piano part, while the soprano is challenged by the expansive phases, wide range and occasional disjunct melodies. The pairing of the voice with the oboe is spectacular and all three – voice, oboe and piano - expressing the content of the text is spectacular
